String - Chest of Drawers
The chests of drawers are available in two widths, 78 and 58 cm, and one depth, 30 cm. The chests of drawers fit into all 30 cm deep wire and plex panels from String® System. They are designed with two drawers to offer hidden storage in your shelving combination. The chests of drawers are a great fit in either the hallway, living room or kids’ room where the need for hidden storage often is big. Chest of drawer w58 x d30 x h42 cm has internal dimensions (for each drawer) depth 23.7 cm, width 51.3 cm and height 16 cm. Chest of drawer w78 x d30 x h42 cm has internal dimensions (for each drawer) depth 23.7 cm, width 71.3 cm and height 16 cm. The chests of drawers are delivered unassembled.
Materials: White, Grey & Beige: Lacquered MDF with gloss 35. Oak, Ash & Walnut: Veneered particleboard. Veneer is used instead of solid wood to prevent the chance of bowing. It is also the most environmentally sustainable use of wood. The surface is treated with a clear lacquer with gloss 5. Wood is a living material and can therefore naturally change its appearance over time, especially when the surface is exposed to direct sunlight.
'Modern since 1949'. String is the original component shelving system designed by the Swedish architect Nils Strinning in 1949. He was one of the leading mid-twentieth century designers who built the foundation of what we now call 'Scandinavian design'.
The structure is light weight, yet stable. It is simple to assemble, and the shelves can be easily repositioned. Books are kept in place by the side panels and shelves of different depths can be combined in the same unit. When more shelf space is needed, simply add an additional side panel and some shelves. It is equally suited to a large or a small wall. This and the minimalistic timeless design is the reason why String still attracts attention after 70 years.
